Outreach

St. Barnabas is involved in several outreach initiatives. The parish works with community partners to serve members of our own local community, and others all over the world. Fundraising, advocacy, raising awareness, sharing resources, and prayer are all ways through which outreach occurs on a daily basis. Learn more about some of our initiatives and partners below.

Food Bank

St. Barnabas has worked closely with the Deep River and Area Food Bank since it's earliest days. Operating out of the Deep River District Hospital facility, the Deep River and Area Food Bank helps members of the local community meet basic nutrition needs. Whether responding to a personal emergency or a long-term struggle, the food bank is our community's primary food security agency. St. Barnabas is very happy to facilitate monetary and food donations. The parish and the food bank also share several volunteers.

PWRDF

The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is the Anglican Church of Canada’s agency for sustainable development and relief. St. Barnabas encourages and facilitates donations to PWRDF through the parish offering or directly through the PWRDF website.

Impact Zambia

Founded in 2012, Impact Zambia works in partnership with local leaders to help some of the poorest communities in rural areas of southwestern Zambia. Its programs are primarily operated through New Life Tabernacle (founded in 1994 and headquartered in Itezhi, Zambia) and its 20+ branch churches. St. Barnabas is linked to this organization and its work through The Rev. Allan Studd, a retired priest in our community and member of Impact Zambia's leadership team.

Refugee Support

In response to increased awareness of the need for re-settlement of individuals and families who have fled armed conflict in Syria, St. Barnabas worked with several other community organizations in the Deep River area to sponsor, welcome, and support a family's safe arrival in our community. The parish continues to support refugee sponsorship through the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa's Refugee Ministry

Diocesan Community Ministries

As a parish of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, St. Barnabas is involved with a very large and reputable network of Community Ministries. These ministries serve people struggling with mental illness, fleeing abuse, or hemmed in by poverty. This highly specialized work among people in vulnerable circumstances is how our church responds to needs on a regional basis.
